Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist to work within a Community Learning Disability Team in a developmental post, with a view to moving to a Band 7 once they have achieved the necessary Dysphagia training and experience. This experience will be a period of two years post successful completion of the course/training to ensure the learning is consolidated. Close supervision and support will be provided during this time.
The post holder will be a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable.
The post holder will support their peers and team leader and be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative. They will supervise pre-registration students. They will have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals and agencies.
The post holder will work as a member of the Barking & Dagenham Community Learning Disability Team, to provide an efficient, effective and co-ordinated speech and language therapy service.
The post holder will take a lead role for clinical area overseeing the whole caseload and providing clinical support for team members., 1. To assess, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment and management for adults with learning disabilities who also have communication, eating and/or swallowing difficulties, and may also have challenging behaviour, providing the service to clients across Barking & Dagenham in a community person-centred domiciliary role.
2. To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day today allocation of work.
3. To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
4. To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register
5. To work as part of an integrated community learning disability team which will include contribution to co-ordination of case management across various health and social care disciplines.
6. To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them., NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High-Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436) pro rata for part time staff.

Salary for band 6 is £37,338 - £44,962 per annum (plus HCAS)
