Full Job Description

We are pleased to be able to advertise an opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the Speech and Language Therapy team on a temporary basis until 31st December 2024

We are designing a bespoke learning curriculum based around outdoor learning, which will be hands-on and functional with less of an academic focus. This will be a highly therapeutic environment, where communication support is central to its success. We will follow the SCERTS framework (Social Communication Emotional Regulation Transition Support) to support our assessment, target setting and maintenance of a high quality, communication friendly environment. Close multi-disciplinary team work, is one of our core values, and we are very proud of our dynamic team of specialist teachers, therapists and learning support assistants, who work very closely together to ensure our students experience a meaningful, holistic timetable of activities to optimise their independence and emotional well-being.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with Special Education Needs, especially non-verbal children, using AAC methods. The following skills are also desirable: writing notes, ability to clearly convey information to appropriate staff and to deliver therapy under supervision.

Duties will include supporting Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) during group therapy sessions, carrying out specific therapy programmes as directed by a qualified SLT and allocated administrative tasks.

  • Experience of working with Special Education Needs, especially non-verbal children, using AAC methods.

  • Supporting our students can sometimes be challenging, mental and physical resilience are qualities necessary for all our staff.

  • The ability to build good working relationships with children, teachers, parents and carers.

  • The ability to promote positive behaviour in a nurturing environment is essential.

  • Excellent English skills (clear written and spoken English) along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills.
