Full Job Description

An opportunity has become available to work as a Speech & Language Therapy Assistant within the Sheffield Speech Therapy Service for 22.5 hours a week on a permanent basis. You will be predominantly based at the Northern General Hospital (NGH), working on the Osborn 4 Neurorehabilitation unit, the acute wards there. You may be asked to work at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital acute wards at times., Your role will be to provide input to patients who are at the Neurorehabilitation unit, or who are on the inpatient wards at NGH, and those who come to a video-fluoroscopy (swallow x-ray) clinic.

You will work under the direction of Speech and Language Therapists and will be involved in communication therapy programmes, swallowing therapy programmes, multidisciplinary teamwork, staff and carer training, video-fluoroscopy support, as well as having general duties within the team.

You will support the work of the Speech and Language Therapists who work with adults who have communication and swallowing difficulties. You will have experience of working with people, preferably those who have communication and swallowing disorders.

The SLT service across both the acute and community teams in STH has approximately 55 staff (47 therapists, 7 assistants and 4 secretarial staff) (41.23wte).
