Full Job Description

The post holder will work under the supervision of the Band 6 Trust Sports and Fitness Lead to deliver a sport & fitness activity, under the Occupational Therapy department. This entails preparing and delivering safe sporting activities across the sports hub within the Bracton centre grounds (Gym, sports hall, MUGA and the Meadows track). As well as being a member of the wider Occupational Therapy team, supporting the Seven Day Therapies Programme.
The Sport & Fitness Assistant will work with both individuals and groups contributing directly to the Sport & Exercise programme and the wider Occupational Therapy Seven Day Therapies Programme on average one in four weekends, either a Saturday or Sunday on a rota basis. The post holder will also offer a range of sporting activities as well as support access to community sport provisions to promote the social inclusion., To plan and safely deliver sports and fitness sessions (team and individual) across the Sports Hub
To work under the supervision of Trust Sport & Fitness Lead and Band 4 Sport & Fitness Technical Instructor
To apply experience and skill set to assist in providing sport, exercise, and physical activities for individuals/groups of service users.
To co-develop on the development of service user projects e.g. Uplift programme
Communicate with service users, MDT and the wider Occupational Therapy team.
Provide feedback on caseload and sports activities at monthly supervision.
· Have an awareness of local sport, exercise and physical activity providers that will promote social inclusion and skills development for service users.
To undertake additional delegated responsibilities as directed by Occupational Therapy lead.
Safe use of equipment other than equipment, To exercise good personal time management, punctuality, and consistent reliable attendance
To co-facilitate sports and fitness programme for service users within The Bracton Centre, offering a range of sports and fitness activities as well as encourage access to community sports programmes to promote social inclusion.
To attend all relevant mandatory training as directed by the Trust
To contribute to own CPD through participation in training and development opportunities
To attend the Trust wide OT Support Worker's Development group
To participate in and contribute to the development of the service locally
To ensure relevant national and local polices are implemented
To review and reflect on own practice and performance through effective use of supervision and appraisal guided by KSF.
To work effectively as a member of the Sport & Fitness team in providing a programme of ward, department or community-based sports activities
· To apply experience, knowledge and skill set to engage service users in therapeutic activities whilst implementing exercise based best practice.
· Under supervision of Trust Sport & Fitness Lead /co-facilitate planned group work and individual activities
· To engage in the ongoing assessment and treatment of service users and adjust own clinical interventions based on the fluctuating needs of the service users
· Ensure all data is completed and entered on RiO
· Maintaining good communication with the multi-professional team (MDT) within to ensure integrated team working and improve the operational delivery of services.
· To undertake delegated tasks to contribute to the safe and smooth running of the service delivery
· To work with both individuals and groups and contribute directly to the Seven Day Therapies Programme on average one in four weekends, either a Saturday or Sunday on a rota basis.
Under the supervision of a Trust Sport & Fitness Lead utilise evidence-based practice in your everyday work
To participate in OT /team audit and evaluation activities as agreed with Trust-wide Sport & Fitness Lead
To communicate appropriately with service users, team members and OT colleagues
To communicate appropriately with those who have difficulty with communication for any reason
· To communicate effectively as required within job role using appropriate methods of communication
· To report effectively to the MDT on service users progress/performance in areas of health, fitness and wellbeing.
· To ensure that up to date electronic and written records are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards
