Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated RN to join our team in Ophthalmology Outpatient. Providing support and care in an outpatient setting to patient's attending the department for appointments or procedures., The postholder:-

  • To provide a high standard of compassionate care to patients, whilst maintaining at all times, their privacy and dignity.

  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team using resources efficiently.

  • To assist the OPD Manager in the efficient running of Ophthalmology Outpatient clinics.

  • To co-ordinate clinics to ensure that patients visiting the Ophthalmology Outpatient department receive a first-class service.

  • To work within the NMC code of professional practice, and within policies, procedures and guidelines of Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust.

  • To support patients visiting the Ophthalmology Outpatient department; ensuring that they are kept updated & informed with their progress (in clinic) and explanation provided regarding any next steps (what happens next) through the service.

  • To provide mentorship and preceptorship to newly qualified staff and students, new starters and students encouraging an effective learning environment.

  • To take responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance, including identifying own development needs and maintain own portfolio in accordance with re-registration requirements.

  • To manage verbal complaints, inform ward sister and refer on when unable to resolve.

  • To establish and maintain effective communication, both verbal and written and relationships with multi-disciplinary team.

  • To assist in the completion of junior staff's PDR's.

  • Support the ward sister in aspects of Patient Experience work.

  • We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children's and young people's services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

    We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.
