Staff Nurse

This opportunity at the Oxford Centre for Enablement is both rewarding and impactful! As a band 5 registered nurse with a background in Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing or Learning Disability Nursing, you'd be part of a specialized interdisciplinary team, working closely with patients recovering from acquired brain injuries. Here are some key points to consider regarding the role:

Rehabilitative Nursing: You'll have access to expert knowledge within the interdisciplinary team, allowing you to promote independence and adaptation for patients during their recovery.

Understanding Brain Injury: Gaining insights into brain injury and understanding why patients behave in certain ways is crucial.

Therapeutic Relationships: Building strong connections with patients and their loved ones contributes significantly to their overall well-being.

Communication Skills: Patients with brain injuries often have complex communication needs. Developing effective communication strategies is vital.

Nutrition Management: Patients may require modified diets, gastrostomy or jejunostomy feeding, and stable NG tube feeding.

Tissue Viability: Preventing skin damage and ensuring tissue health is essential.

Continence Management: Post-brain injury, continence issues can be challenging and you will be involved in managing these.

The OCE provides specialised rehabilitation for individuals from 16 years of age following a neurological incident; the majority of our patients have suffered vascular or traumatic brain injuries as a result of head injury, stroke, subarachnoid haemorrhage or other forms of brain injury from infection or cardiorespiratory arrest.

This is a developing service, in a process of change, and we are looking for staff with enthusiasm who wishes to provide high quality care to individuals in this setting.

The OCE Inpatient Ward admits patients for 3-6 months. We are a Level 1 Neuro-rehabilitation centre. During their admission, the multidisciplinary team (MDT) uses a patient centred approach to patient care and supports patients and their families to give them the best opportunity to grow as individuals, regain independence and reintegrate back into society.
