Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has risen for Band 5 staff nurse on Jersey Ward at Hillingdon Hospital to expand our team on the elective surgical, elective gynaecological and non-elective, Orthopaedic and medical inpatient Ward.

We are looking for experienced nurses who want a new challenge or newly qualified looking to gain good experience in the surgical division.

The Jersey Ward is a 15 bedded elective Surgical, Gynae and Orthopaedic as well as non-gynaecological patient admitted via A&E to Jersey Ward will have elective Surgical, Gynae, Orthopaedic surgery carried out daily as well as operating on a higher number of patients with complex medical conditions.

We are looking for nurses who have a passion for Surgical, Orthopaedic and Gynaecological nursing and are keen to develop and learn. You must have strong communication skills and be a team player. You will be joining a team of dedicated nursing team who are proud of a well done job whilst promoting Our Trust Care Values.

You will be expected to work alternating shifts involving long days and night duty. A full orientation will be given on induction to the ward.

Newly qualified nurses will be supported by our established preceptor programme. There is opportunity for personal development for all staff as the trust offers in house training in venepuncture and cannulation, ECG interpretation, ALERT, ILS and the deteriorating patient study day to name a few.

Main duties of the job

1. Ensure that research based nursing care within the ward is of a high standard and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures. By monitoring patient care, supervising juniors, and evaluating the care that is delivered. To act as a clinical expert by giving direction and facilitatingstaff in their professional development.

2. Maintain individual patient care plans, evaluating and updating them as necessary to ensure that the patient's physical, social and psychological needs are met. Assess, and review on a regular basis the plans of care developed for all patients.

3. Ensure that all patients nutritional and personal hygiene needs are met, ensuring nutritional assessments are completed and as appropriate referral is made to dietician, speech and language therapist etc.

4. Adhere to strict compliance with Trust Infection Control policies and procedures and ensure junior staff and learners are aware of their responsibility, observe staff practice and advise/educate as necessary.

5. Assist with the introduction and implementation of new ideas and methods of nursing care, including research methods.
