- Human Resources The balance between practice and management will vary according to day to day priorities, but will be negotiated overall with the sister, matron and Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology., Contributes to a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care. Ensures that care is patient-focused and that patient dignity and privacy are maintained at all times. Practices in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and other appropriate NMC guidelines. Ensures due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and colleagues and that equal opportunities are practiced. To provide psychological and emotional support to patients in the gynaecology inpatient ward and gynaecology day unit . Acts under direction of the registered nurse in charge of the nursing team in setting standards and expectations in the quality of care. Takes an active role in maintaining effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives. Represents patients at multi-disciplinary meetings ensuring that their needs are assertively presented. Ensures that all Trust and Unit policies and procedures are adhered to. Acts according to the Health & Safety Act and manual handling practice. Records all accidents or incidents and report to the nurse in charge. Inform manager when changes in circumstances occur which affect safe and competent practice. Participates in the safe storage and administration of medicines in accordance with Trust Policy. To take responsibility for operational issues in the absence of more senior staff. Ensures that all clinical and legal nursing documents are completed accurately and legibly and that their relevance is understood and confidentiality maintained in accordance with Trust policy and NMC guidelines. Assists with the maintenance of necessary equipment and supplies in order to carry out clinical activity with efficiency and safety. Works in conjunction with the team leader or Sister/Charge nurse to ensure safe care for all patients in gynaecology department. Has knowledge of the structure of referral mechanisms within the outpatient and inpatient environment for the differing specialities. Undertakes any reasonable and relevant clinical or non-clinical functions commensurate with grade to ensure patient needs are met at all times. Practices in accordance with the professional direction as stipulated in the Trust's Nursing & Midwifery strategy.
