Full Job Description

This post offers an important role in the management of people with chronic and genetic non-malignant haematology conditions requiring day unit care within Barts Health Clinical Haematology service. We aim to provide a first class and a safe level of care to patients and their relatives, whilst ensuring that the patient pathway is recorded and monitored throughout treatment. This role will have a focus on supporting the unit to increase the apheresis capacity and enable an expansion of the delivery of automated red cell exchange therapy.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident, dynamic, highly motivated nurse to work with the clinical haematology team to continue the rapid development of the day unit. The post holder will ensure all patients receive effective, compassionate and efficient care. This role is crucial to support the expansion of the provision of Automated Red Cell Exchange Transfusions to our patients living with Sickle Cell Disease.
Other services offered by the unit are for people requiring blood transfusions, iron infusions, infusions for other haematological conditions, venesections and blood tests. The patients attending the unit have a number of conditions including; sickle cell, thalassaemia, immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), haemophilia, haemochromatosis, anaemia and clotting disorders.
The post holder will be required to care for all the patients' needs in terms of procedures, reviews and tests. Whilst ensuring the care provided is safe and evidence based.
The position would be ideal for a nurse with an acute interest or previous experience of caring for haematology patients.
