Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, caring and committed staff nurses to support the current critical care team. We are a busy Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, providing level 3 care to a highly specialised area. We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual with excellent interpersonal skills to join us., An induction programme, preceptorship, and competency training packs, specific to the critical care environment supports new starters. A supernumerary period allows staff to build confidence and skills and allows for clinical supervision with an allocated mentor.

The main responsibilities will be related to clinical and nursing care within CICU with an emphasis on personal development. Previous experience in a critical care setting would be desirable however a keen interest in cardiothoracics and the intensive care environment is essential.

The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough is a designated major trauma centre and provides all its specialties from one site which is unique for a hospital of its size. It provides a wide range of district general hospital services and specialist services such as neurosciences, renal medicine, spinal injuries, major trauma, cardiothoracics, vascular surgery and cancer services. It has 1,024 beds, a 24-hour acute admissions unit and an emergency department which houses the major trauma centre for Durham, East Cleveland, Tees Valley and North Yorkshire and has its own helipad. In 2012 the Middlesbrough hospital completed a £35 million redevelopment of its cancer services and is now proud to provide some of the best facilities in Europe. The James Cook University Hospital has a modern, central operating suite containing 20 well-equipped theatres and a 16-bedded intensive care unit. There is also an Institute of Learning, Research and Innovation on site, embracing postgraduate
medical education, undergraduate teaching centre, nurse training school, the school of radiography and library facilities.

The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton is an essential part of our organisation and an important point of delivery for the community. It is one of the smallest district general hospitals in the country and has 189 inpatient beds.
