Full Job Description

Be responsible for the triaging and the assessment of care needs of patients during their outpatient visit to the unit under the supervision of the outpatient manager.

Be designated to take charge of the department unit in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility minimum of 2 shifts per week.

Work effectively as part of the HIV team, maintaining the highest possible standards of care and ensuring a commitment to the development of the service.

Supervise junior staff within the department and be able to identify and meet their learning needs.

Participate in nursing developments throughout the HIV department

Work closely with all members of the HIV team in order to promote safe and effective care for HIV patients attending the unit.

The development, implementation and evaluate programmes of care, using a problem-solving approach, ensuring that the needs of each individual patient are met throughout their attendance within the department including any detailed arrangements for their safe discharge back into the community.

Ensuring that all department resources, including drugs, are stored safely and used effectively and economically.

Report any untoward incidents occurring on the ward/department to the OPD manager/Modern Matron/Operational Service Manager, assisting with the completion of correct documentation.

Learning to administer intravenous drugs and performing phlebotomy and cannulation following appropriate training if required.

The care and control of drugs and other stock used for patient care, gaining experience in ordering and maintenance of stock levels. Keeping abreast of patient's prescriptions.

Adherence to the Trust's and department's policies and procedures and ensuring that all staff works within them.

The maintenance of a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff by being aware of potential hazards and taking appropriate action by following the correct procedures and attending the compulsory update sessions.

Identifying and managing stress in self and others using appropriate resources within the Trust.
