Full Job Description

The assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of care including arrangements for discharge to the appropriate ward.

The maintenance of an acceptable environment for women, their families and visitors and staff, reporting and taking appropriate action on hazard and faulty equipment as per hospital policy.

The supervision of junior staff and the provision of support to patient, family and unqualified staff.

To report immediately to the Lead Nurse within the unit any significant changes in the use of the Recovery room during planned or emergency sessions.

To report to the Lead Nurse within the unit or Labour Ward Coordinator in the absence of the former, any untoward incidents occurring in the Recovery Unit/Maternity Department.

Recognise and respond to acutely unwell women

Understand the post-operative needs of patients demonstrating the ability to prioritise and organise workload.

Ensure good communication is used effectively in the interests of patient care, including the use of clinical incident reporting if necessary.

We have an opportunity for band 5 nurses to join our well established team working in our maternity recovery/ HDU.

You will be involved in making assessments of care needs, formulate, implement and evaluate a programme of care using the nursing model for the area.

You may be designated to take charge of the Recovery Unit in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility or their deputy and support the recovery team.

Pregnancy is a force of nature not to be reckoned with and here at Chelsea, we nurses are here to manage the complexities pregnancy and delivery throws at women as high dependency nurses , and manage the recovery care of surgical or high risk deliveries, as a recovery/HDU Nurse. But it does not stop there.... new mothers, new babies (and partners) are intensively monitored by our highly skilled and multidisciplinary team of midwives, neonatal Drs, obstetricians, anaesthetists and this is all co-ordinated by you!
