Full Job Description
Paediatric A&E and Paediatric Assessment Unit are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking Band 5 Nurse to join an already established team.
Although our two departments are separate, we work closely together providing care to children and young people in both areas. In the assessment unit, we currently sees patients referred for clinical assessment and/or treatment of surgical, medical or orthopaedic conditions from various sources, including GP's, A&E and Community Midwives. We also have plastics, ENT and maxfax specialities within this trust.
You should be a proactive, enthusiastic, and a motivated individual who will be skilled to work in both areas and begin to develop further skills to be able to effectively look after children and young people seeing our service.
You will gain skills such as triaging, cannulation, plaster application and wound care. You will be working alongside a nurse in charge and ensuring a good and positive journey through each area, providing the highest quality and standard of care to medical and surgical patients. You will be trained on ensuring all patients are safeguarded and relevant multi-disciplinary teams are involved where appropriate.
If successful, some of your duties will be:
1. Carry out initial assessments - Triage
2. Escalation to nurse in charge
3. Safeguard all patients
4. Carrying out observations, ECGs etc & treatments i.e. cannulation & wound care
5. Administer medication in all forms i.e. intravenously & orally
6. Keep detailed records of care provided and escalation
7. Communicate effectively and clearly with the multi-disciplinary team
8. Assist in procedures
9. Work well within the multi-disciplinary team
10. Adhere to and promote infection control
11. Emotional support to both families and colleagues
