Full Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our Hand Trauma Nursing Team within St Andrew's Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery. This band five role will include working in our regional Hand Trauma Unit as well as assisting in our procedure room. As a regional trauma centre we take referrals from all over the south eastern region for hand trauma injuries, and triage them appropriately into our specialist services. We see same day emergencies as well as routinely booked patients. We operate in main theatres as well as our own procedure room within the trauma unit seven days a week. Our working environment is fast paced and ever changing. As well as a passion for delivering excellent; specialist care, the ideal candidate will possess a keen enthusiasm for developing their own clinical skills, in the specialty of plastic surgery and hand trauma. This will include undertaking theatre scrub competencies.

  • Providing excellent and safe care to a variety of patients.
  • Promoting Trust values and behaviours.
  • Taking referrals from internal and external clinical areas.
  • Delivering advanced wound care.
  • Delivering Nursing care within our Trauma Unit.
  • Delivering Nursing care within our procedure room acting as either a scrub or circulating Nurse.
  • Providing safe pre, peri and post operative care to plastic surgery patients.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Contributing to service improvement strategies and data collection.
  • Contributing to wider research projects within the Plastic Surgery Hand Trauma department.

Under the supervision of the Nurse in Charge the Staff Nurse will be responsible for delivering safe and efficient care to patients attending the Hand Trauma Unit. This will be from assessment, wound examination and dressings, to discharge. For patients returning for surgery the Staff Nurse will ensure their safe preparation and discharge. When working within the procedure room, on completion of required competencies, the Staff Nurse will practice in either a Scrub Nurse role, or Circulating Nurse role, providing perioperative care for those patients requiring surgery.
