Full Job Description

To be trained and to perform daily checks on technical equipment as part of quality control systems. All SSD staff are accountable for recognising and reporting any failures to meet these standards.The frequent collection of soiled hospital equipment from wards, departments and theatres; working within Health and Safety guidance.To hand wash and use appropriate technical equipment to clean, disinfect and sterilise equipment for return to the relevant departments.The cleaning, dismantling / reassembling of instruments received in SSD.Using Hand / eye co-ordination and accuracy to check all instruments prior to the wrapping and packing of trays for sterilisation.To operate and ensure correct testing and use of autoclaves enabling safe sterilisation and traceability.To pack and organise the safe transportation of sterile equipment within and external to the YDH building.To develop a working knowledge of the traceability/quality control IT system, using the system daily to record activity
within the department.To work in a safe manner within the dedicated flexible endoscopy decontamination area with due consideration for this specialist, delicate patient equipment.To immediately report to the SSD shift lead any discrepancy regarding defects or the non-return of instruments/equipment from Theatres.To report to Supervisor or Manager any incidents, accidents, complaints or defects in equipment/ supplies ensuring equipment for repair is identified SSD shift lead for attention of the Lead.To report to SSD Lead immediately any accidents or injuries, and Safeguard in line with Simply Serve Limited Policy.To always maintain a tidy, clean, and stocked area during the shift and leave area prepared for next shift.To dispose of all clinical waste according to Simply Serve Limited Policy.To be able to work independently when direct supervision not available.To adhere to and carry out procedures in accordance with their training and Trust Policy. i.e. Health and Safety & HR Policies.To
promote and ensure good relationships, communications and team work with all staff teams who are external to and work closely with SSD.To ensure that at all times confidential and personal information relating to staff, patients is not disclosed within or outside the place of work.To report sickness as per Simply Serve Limited Management of Attendance Policy.All staff are personally accountable for using the traceability system correctly within the department and for reporting any faults promptly; this will ensure the department retains its accreditation.To participate in an on-call system for out of hours working as required.
