Full Job Description

SPP has a key role in developing strategy and enabling the implementation of strategic plans. Alongside managing a portfolio of strategic projects the SPP planning function supports an annual planning cycle; provides a management information analysis and insight service; and is responsible for the production of a number of student related external returns., The Senior Strategic Planning Officer role is varied against an annual calendar of strategic planning activity. The role-holder will support institution wide strategic & operational planning and decision-making through the provision of management information and business intelligence reporting. Working across a wide range of data sources the role-holder will generate quantitative and qualitative analysis producing written reports and presentations. and support our further development of reporting solutions As part of the wider team, the role holder will contribute to the preparation of statutory returns as required. As we implement our strategic plan, the role holder will support work to identify business intelligence requirements and find ways to report our data to deliver insights and inform decision making and actions., Strategic and Operational Planning

  • To support the key deliverables of the annual planning cycle as required including the
  • development and monitoring of operational plans; the setting of student number targets; and setting tuition fees. Data analysis and Reporting
  • To support analysis of and produce reporting on key external datasets, such as the
  • Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) metrics and the National Student Survey (NSS), generating actionable insights and working across the institution to communicate results.
  • To undertake a range of student related management information and business
  • intelligence reporting to inform strategic planning and decision-making
  • To support institutional research and academic planning through the analysis of sector
  • data and trends, and undertaking desk-based research and horizon scanning
  • To develop and maintain dashboard reporting related to the areas of analysis covered
  • by the role
  • To establish an annual publication cycle for reporting in line with the role holder's
  • responsibilities Statutory returns and Data
  • As required to support and contribute to the delivery and compilation of statutory
  • returns completed by SPP including the Data Futures return
  • To contribute to the overall data quality underpinning our statutory returns, and the
  • related student records. Resolving issues and providing feedback and guidance as appropriate to key stakeholders on student data related issues.
  • To support development of the range and scope of external information sources used
  • by the SPP and the wider university to inform planning activities ensuring that data is relevant and accessible (e.g. sector datasets, economic/industry data, demographics) General
  • To ensure the effective dissemination of outputs generated through the role, ensuring
  • that information resources are co-ordinated and accessible to SPP staff and the wider institution as appropriate.
  • As required and in conjunction with SPP colleagues, to provide planning support,
  • management information, data analyses and briefing reports for the SMT, Committees and the wider community in relation to the work of the team and relevant external policy.
  • As and when required, to present the findings of reporting and analysis to internal
  • stakeholders, and join working groups related to the role.,
  • To acquire and maintain specialist knowledge relevant to the role including the
  • requirements of external agencies/statutory bodies and external metrics and apply this knowledge to the role and inform the wider university community.
  • As necessary, initiate and undertake ad-hoc projects linked to the work of this role
