Full Job Description

This is an exciting time to join the Greener NHS programme following the commitment by the NHS in its multi year planDelivering a 'Net Zero' National Health Service to become the world's first carbon net zero national health system This commitment reflects growing evidence of the health impacts of climate change/air pollution and recognition that it is not enough for the NHS to treat these problems - from asthma to heart attacks and strokes - it needs to play a part in tackling them at source. It builds on the NHS existing sustainability commitments in the NHS Long Term Plan. This role is part of a dynamic team supporting the NHS to solve some of its toughest problems.We are uniquely placed to look across the health and care system, to better understand and reduce the environmental impacts of health and care, and save thousands of lives and hospitalisations across the country. The Greener NHS team works closely with both corporate and regional teams across NHS England, with local health systems, Trusts and other stakeholders. The postholder will lead and support the delivery of Greener NHS portfolio, working with teams across organisations to reduce the environmental impact of the NHS, by working with the NHS medicines and procurement teams to reduce the carbon impact of medicines, and support our suppliers to align to the NHS net zero supplier roadmap, The Greener NHS programme is responsible for driving forward the system's world-leading commitment to deliver a net zero health service by 2040. Working closely with colleagues and other stakeholders the post holder will be involved in driving forward by working with the NHS medicines and procurement workstreams to reduce the carbon impact of medicines, and support our suppliers to align to the NHS net zero supplier roadmap, as well as the programme of work as a whole. The role will include:

  • Delivering projects using core strategy and policy skills including adaptable problem-solving, analysing and triangulating data in innovative ways and presenting findings clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Project management including the ability largely drive their own work programme, providing guidance and review of other's work and contributing appropriately to theoverall programme.
  • Communicating with and influencing team members, other internal NHSE/I colleagues and external partners.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships and communications related to the Greener NHS programme, NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you'll usually need to be paid the 'standard' salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the 'going rate' for your job, whichever is higher.
