Lancaster City Council wishes to recruit a reliable, enthusiastic & self-motivated individual to assist in the delivery of important practical services. Street Cleansing is one of the most important aspects within all Council services and we need people who are motivated by results and who take pride in their work. This position will give immense job satisfaction to the right candidate.
The work can be varied and interesting and it is essential you can appreciate the important contribution these services have in improving our local environment, economic development and the image of the area. Your role will be part of a team that maintains the cleanliness of the district's streets, parks, and open spaces.
Based at the White Lund Depot in Morecambe, the main duties we cover are emptying of litter bins within a defined area, assisting with the removal of fly tipping, litter picking, jet washing street furniture and removal of graffiti. You must possess good communication skills, have the ability to learn quickly and undertake a range of duties with minimum supervision.
A full current UK driving licence is essential as this role entails travelling from site to site, transporting equipment, removal of fly tipping and emptying of litterbins. Large distances will need to be covered. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees' driving licence data., You will identify with our organisational values of Pride, Ownership, Working Together and Ambition., Disability Confident

This post is permanent. The hours of work will be 37 hours per week, working 5 days out of 7 on a shift rota basis, you would be expected to work Wednesday to Sunday, working 6am-2pm October to March and 1pm to 9pm April to September. You will also be required to work other shift patterns in line with the business needs, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. We will accept applications from people who wish to work part time.
You may be required to undertake Standby duties to cover out of hours work.
