The roles can encompass all or some of these activities :

  • Deliver structural biology results as part of integrated cross-discipline teams to support drug discovery project decisions.
  • Design experiments to ask critical program question using structural and biophysical approaches and effectively coordinate this within the department.
  • Contribute to the cryo-EM infrastructure of the department, such as supporting the running of the EM facility or assisting with the computational structural biology infrastructure e.g. testing and embedding new software and automation of computational EM pipelines.

    We are looking for structural biologists with a strong knowledge of electron microscopy, especially applied to small molecule drug development or vaccine research. Motivated to work within a team environment the individual will want to apply their talents to drive impact on therapeutic projects by working closely with others. With a passion to remain current in this rapidly moving area, you are likely to have exceptional strengths in one to two specific aspect of EM. Whether this be instrument knowledge, challenging sample optimisation, skills in software development and processing, or creativity in addressing complex problems, we are keen to understand the abilities that set you apart.,
  • A background in a biological, biochemical or physical sciences discipline, with at least PhD level or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of all stage's single particle cryo-EM process from protein purification to grid optimisation, data-processing, 3-D reconstruction and structure interpretation.
  • Demonstrated exceptional track record of success and expertise in one or two specific area of the cryo-EM process.
  • Success with multiple high-resolution structures including small proteins and ideally membrane protein complexes.
  • Experience with operation of screening and high-resolution data-collection microscopes.
  • Excellent organisation, interpersonal, communication and team working skills.

  • Extensive experience of cryo-EM sample preparation and optimisiation including cross-linking and extending to cryo-ET, ideally including expertise in protein purification.
  • Expertise in working with challenging systems including membrane proteins and RNA.
  • Experience in automating single particle processing or cryo-ET processing.
  • Significant experience in other structural biology or biophysical techniques.
  • Experience of scientific leadership to influence programs of research.
  • Evidence of ability to coordinate projects with interconnecting activities.
