Full Job Description

The Structural Steelwork Estimator is responsible for generating accurate and competitive quotations based on tender requirements, including specifications, drawings, and tender documentation. This role involves pre-contract communication with clients' representatives and adherence to company practices, policies, and procedures as guided by the integrated ISO system., 1.

  • Tender Preparation and Submission:

  • - Prepare competitive tenders ensuring accurate pricing using agreed fabrication, plant, and labour rates.
    - Ensure that tenders reflect a build philosophy, clearly stating quantities and any exclusions.

  • Documentation and Compliance:

  • - Complete and return all subcontract questionnaires and Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs).
    - Organize and execute pre-contract reviews with relevant managers to ensure all tender agreements, budgets, and job-specific information are viable and understood.

  • Client and Stakeholder Communication:

  • - Liaise with production and site operations to confirm correct pricing for all work elements.
    - Maintain effective communication with clients and internal departments to support contract management and budget achievement.

  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • - Issue weekly updates to the Operations Director, detailing the number of contracts priced and won, percentage of targets achieved, client contacts, and feedback on lost projects.
    - Support Contract Managers in achieving monthly budgets and review actual costs against budgets upon contract completion for future reference.

  • Business Development:

  • - Chase up all estimates to maximize contract wins and gather feedback on unsuccessful bids to improve future performance.
    - Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients and industry partners.

  • Credit and Risk Management:

  • - Coordinate with the Company Secretary to conduct credit checks on prospective clients once tenders are received.
    7.
  • Tender vs. Construction Analysis:

  • - Prepare tender versus construction analysis to compare initial estimates with actual costs.
    - Identify and report on cost changes, ensuring that all variances are documented and explained.

  • Miscellaneous Duties:

  • - Perform any additional duties as required by management.
    - Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

    Minimum of 10 years of experience in the structural steelwork industry, with a proven track record in estimating.
    - Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes.
    - Proficiency in relevant estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    - Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
    - Strong communication and negotiation skills.
    - Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    Performance Targets:
    - Achieve targets set out in performance reviews., Minimum of 10 years of experience in the structural steelwork industry, with a proven track record in estimating.
    - Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes.
    - Proficiency in relevant estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    - Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
    - Strong communication and negotiation skills.
    - Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
