Full Job Description

  • Reporting to the Business Development Director, the main purpose of the role is to price and win work and to build strong working relationships with clients.
  • Receipt of tenders and pricing / costing of these.
  • Writing proposals and estimating costs in line with client requirements / work scope.
  • Meetings to assess projects prior to pricing, either on site or at client offices.
  • Tender evaluation & Pre-let meetings.
  • Proposals and tenders are produced to mitigate exposure to commercial risk, maximise potential margin and promote long term future relationships.
  • Work closely with operations and commercial department at handover stage and assist with project management and commercial team as and when necessary.
  • Evaluation of tender opportunities to ensure they fit with CAN's business model.
  • Work closely with finance and operational teams to develop and maintain processes for accurate estimates of costs.
  • Encourage feedback loop between operational and estimating staff to maximise efficiency and opportunity.
  • Estimating tender prices.
  • Bid writing and preparation.
  • Identify and implement continual improvements to reduce cost for both the client and CAN

    Structures estimating/pricing (painting, inspection, pointing etc. of stadia/bridges/buildings).
  • Degree educated preferable. Equivalent relevant construction qualifications also considered (HND, Btec etc).
  • Ability to use and manipulate complex excel spreadsheets.
  • A background in construction with site skills preferable.
  • Self-motivated with the drive to win work.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Excellent communication & organisation skills with attention to detail.

    CAN Engineering is a UK-based geotechnical engineering and access contractor. We undertake large-scale ground stabilisation and specialist access projects. Our geotechnical engineering division is involved with undertaking soil slope and rock face stabilisation work, installing rockfall protection measures, constructing retaining walls and providing sprayed concrete and structural reinforcement drilling and grouting. Our structures division offers structural repairs, construction support, inspection, testing and maintenance, blasting, painting, rigging and lifting at height. The multifaceted work is supported by rope access and confined space expertise, including bespoke access solutions.
  • CAN also has a large fleet of bespoke drilling and access equipment and facilities for design, manufacture, modification and repair. We provide solutions to complex jobs and overcome challenging access scenarios, thereby minimising public disruption. We hold the necessary health, safety, environmental and quality registrations. We are based in the UK (Chesterfield, Kent, Bristol, Glasgow) and the Republic of Ireland (Dublin).
