Full Job Description

  • To communicate effectively with women and their families and provide a high standard of Midwifery care throughout preconception, antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal periods under the supervision of the Registered Midwife/Mentor.

  • To diagnose pregnancy, assess and monitor women holistically throughout the preconception, antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal stages through the use of a range of assessment methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive conclusions under the supervision of the Registered Midwife/Mentor.

  • To work towards achieving the midwifery standards of proficiency agree with the HEI provider and set out in the Midwifery Practice Assessment Document

  • To work towards achieving experience under supervision of the activities of the midwife as outlined in the European Union Midwives Directive (80/155/EEC Article 4.

    The 24 month Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery aims to produce competent, caring,
    research and evidence-based midwives, capable of delivering effective woman-centred
    care for mothers and their families within these contexts.
    Midwives of the 21st century practice within dynamic, rapidly changing and diverse
    contexts and require personal, academic and professional skills to practice in an optimum
    way.
    During the 24 month course, time will be split between the London South Bank University
    Southwark and Barts Health Newham University Hospital in Leytonstone.
