Full Job Description
Upon graduation from university, students may be offered a full-time permanent role as an Accredited Financial Investigator with a career pathway to becoming a confiscator - the most highly trained financial investigator. The MPS Economic Crime Command is made up of police officers and police staff. It is part of Central Specialist Crime and specialises in the investigation of Fraud and Money Laundering offences and the conduct of Financial Investigations. EC has many and varied strands to tackle some of the most serious offenders and prevent them gaining financially from their crimes. EC manages a wide range of investigations including sensitive, high-profile enquiries that span national and international boundaries. The right candidate will have a positive impact on taking the profit out of crime and making London and the public safer by targeting Serious Organised Crime and High Harm Offenders. You will be part of a criminal finance team who use a variety of police and civil powers to seize assets from criminals and investigate money laundering. The teams have access to a wide range of IT systems allowing them to obtain sensitive information from a range of sources. The teams work in partnership with many internal partners including local policing investigation teams, neighbourhood policing teams and specialist investigation units. They also work with various external partners including HMRC, Home Office, NCA, all UK police forces, Companies House. You will receive training in order for you to be an Accredited Financial Investigator, allowing you to create account freezing orders, apply to a court to seize criminal assets which you will then investigate and help support front line officers with fast time missing person and wanted person financial enquiries. Vetting This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required. Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post. We are looking to recruit students for a 52-week placement with the Metropolitan Police Service. All roles will give students valuable insight and experience of working for one of the largest public organisations in the UK and the largest single employer in London. The role is a substantive post and we seek to provide valuable practical experience wherever our students work. Background The Metropolitan Police Service is offering 3 positions as Accredited Financial Investigators. This will take the form of a placement scheme. We are looking for three students who have an interest in financial crime who are keen to develop their analytical and investigation skills to assist us in seizing criminally gained assets from those who are committing the most serious and harmful criminal offences. The placement year will run from September 2025 - August 2026 with the potential opportunity to continue part-time employment in your final year at university.
