Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 Midwife to support our Student Midwives by providing both practical and clinical support. The Student Practice Education Facilitator role is a fabulous opportunity for a Midwife to develop professional practice, support with education and training, gain leadership and management experience, and to link with our partner Higher Education Institutes (HEI's).

Gloucestershire Hospitals work in close collaboration with Universities to prepare our future workforce. The main purpose of this job role is to work closely with the Universities, the students that are placed in our maternity unit (including T-level students/Apprentice students and MSc students) and our practice supervisors, assessors and senior management team to develop quality assured placements and maximise support for all involved.

The role is 37.5 hours a week.

Main duties of the job

Focused lead for students placed in our maternity services, our midwifery practice supervisors and practice assessors and main link to our partner HEI's.

Nationally it has been identified that there are midwifery workforce shortages. In response to this Universities have increased the numbers of midwifery students commencing their midwifery training. The 'Education Everyone's Business' One Gloucestershire Student Placement Expansion Project has brought healthcare provider organisations together to discuss and realise the clinical placement expansion required to support the additional students to gain the practice experience and skills they need to become confident and competent registered midwives. This role will support the expansion project within maternity.

This will be achieved by:

- Collaborating with the midwifery senior management team and area clinical leads to review clinical placement opportunities and capacity.

- Supporting clinical teams to trial new practice supervision models such as CLiP coaching models.

- Providing professional support and facilitation for unit managers / team leaders, practice educators to provide quality work-based placements to enable staff to develop the right skills, values and behaviours to deliver high quality, safe patient care.

At Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we take great pride in delivering high quality acute services and we understand just how precious life is.

People entrust their lives to our care every day and they have the right to expect the very best experience and outcomes. That's why our ambition and the pursuit of excellence is the foundation of everything we do.

Maternity services at Gloucestershire hospitals offer a full range of services to support the women of Gloucestershire. We deliver around 6000 babies a year across our two free-standing birth units, an along-side birth unit, home births and an Obstetric unit, offering midwives the opportunity to work in a variety of settings in our community services, birth units and Delivery Suite
