Full Job Description
The Disability & Dyslexia Services team at the University of Roehampton is looking to expand our pool of Specialist 1:1 Study Skills Tutors, providing hourly paid support to students. We are looking for someone with the relevant qualifications and experience with a commitment to work as part of a multi-disciplinary, in-house disability team. Above all, you will need the passion and enthusiasm to enable growth, development and independent learning in our neurodiverse students alongside a willingness to participate in your own regular professional development. The role of the Study Skills Tutor is to provide specialist 1:1 study skills tuition and support for students diagnosed with:
- Specific Learning Differences (SpLD), which may include Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Dyscalculia and/or
- Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) This role is ideal for someone who is looking for approximately 12 - 18 hours (over 2 - 3 days) per week during university term-time. Some sessions can be delivered remotely, but you will need to be able to offer at least one day per week on campus for face-to-face support. Key responsibilities will include:
- Working with students on a one-to-one basis to identify their individual needs and strengths and developing a support programme that will facilitate the growth of independence.
- Helping students become familiar with University procedures and the range of support mechanisms and assistive technology that are available to them.
- Liaising with the Dyslexia Co-ordinator about specific student cases, their needs, their academic progress and any wellbeing issues that may need referral. The successful candidate will have:
- In-depth knowledge and experience in supporting neurodiverse students and an understanding of the particular demands of study in HE.
- Up to date membership of a suitable professional body e.g. PATOSS, PASSHE (formally known as ADSHE ), BDA or Dyslexia Guild.
- A recognised specialist qualification which meets DfE NMH role requirements

Job title: Study Skills Tutor (SpLD and/or ASC), Part time/Sessional - £49.67 per hour, The rate of pay for Study Skills Tutors is £49.67 per hour. This rate includes student contact time and annual leave. Induction and any training days are paid at the rate of £25.96 per hour, inclusive of annual leave.
