Full Job Description

Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher and leader to join us as the Subject Leader for Performing Arts. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly team, led by our exceptional Curriculum Team Leader for Vocational Education, who will provide the support and challenge required to help you to develop as a teacher and a leader. Applicants with a specialism in music will be looked upon favorably, but we welcome applications from drama specialists who have the ability to also teach music.

Futura Learning Partnership is a partnership of schools across the South West that are working together to provide a high-quality educational experience for all students in their care and be a truly inclusive provider of 4-19 education in the area.

Our performing arts curriculum is rooted in high expectations of all students, with a focus on providing a diverse range of rich and interesting experiences which will allow students to express themselves, whilst consistently embedding the core knowledge that makes students the actors, dancers and musicians of the future. Our building is fantastically well apportioned; no performing arts lessons are timetabled to take place outside of bespoke practical spaces, which includes large music rooms, a theatre with a large stage, and sprung floor dance studio. We believe strongly in providing a full KS3 experience to all of our young people, so the performing arts curriculum remains broad until the end of Year 9, when students begin their KS4 options. We offer dance, drama and music to KS4 and run courses for all three - this school believes strongly in the value of the performing arts and will consistently invest in them to ensure students and the wider community do too. We work closely
with the other Futura secondary schools, including running annual trust-wide singing and other musical events. We develop our shared trust curriculum together, share the best resources, and identify the best teaching practice and share this pedagogical knowledge between schools. We have a strong belief in the power of high-quality teaching and learning to change the lives of our students and we have developed highly effective lesson structures and pedagogical approaches which drive progress in every lesson.

At Bedminster Down School, we operate a 'Ready to Learn' behaviour system. Our consistent approach to behaviour management ensures that any low-level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively. Our senior and pastoral teams manage the rare incidents of highly challenging behaviour and permanently staff the behaviour support rooms. This means that, as a teacher at Bedminster Down School, you have the ability to spend your work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximize engagement and progress, as well as providing high quality feedback to your students.

In return we offer:

- A competitive salary

- A full and varied CPD programme offering teaching and leadership development for our staff

- An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow

- Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership

- An energised and professional working environment

- Benefits include; pension scheme, discounted sports centre/gym membership, free wellbeing support & medical cover, free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme.
