Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of individuals struggling with substance use, homelessness, and social exclusion? Turning Tides is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Substance Use Social Worker to join our team and play a key role in transforming lives through trauma-informed care and social work interventions.Our Service The Recovery Project is a unique residential service for up to 31 people experiencing homelessness seeking a safe space to overcome addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. Our mission is to provide a path out of addiction by creating a supportive environment that empowers residents through individualised care plans and a focus on personal strengths. Residents are expected to be abstinent or working toward abstinence, with structured interventions in place to reduce harm during relapse. Intensive support is provided via a keyworker system and a rolling program of group and community-based activities. Community living involves shared responsibilities, including cooperative chores and communal evening meals planned by residents, with a focus on personal growth. The project also features a group room and small gym for therapeutic and leisure use. Fully integrated into Turning Tides' wider services, the Recovery Project is connected with local resources and works in partnership with other agencies, offering additional support in education and employment. Registered with the Care Quality Commission, the project operates 24/7 with dedicated staff, including an on-call manager system.Your Impact in This Role The Substance Use Social Worker will work closely with clients and staff to achieve the best outcomes for individuals struggling with substance misuse and homelessness. They will manage a caseload within residential drug and alcohol services, advocating for clients' rights and helping them navigate social care pathways. Key duties include providing trauma-informed and family-based interventions, advising on safeguarding concerns, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation such as the Care Act and Mental Health Act. Additionally, the role involves raising awareness of homelessness needs, collaborating with statutory services, and contributing to organisational data and reporting.

  • Compassionate and dedicated Social Worker with experience in substance misuse, mental health, and homelessness.
  • Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, safeguarding legislation, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Experienced in managing complex cases involving vulnerable adults and families.
  • Skilled in building effective partnerships across multi-agency environments.
  • Committed to promoting equality, diversity, and advocating for clients' rights.
  • Excellent communication skills, including counselling techniques and motivational interviewing.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and demanding caseload with operational efficiency.
  • Dedicated to continuous personal and professional development.
