Full Job Description

  • Inspection & Non Intrusive Diagnostic Testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the Primary Distribution network.

  • Fault location and repair of minor plant defects associated with the Distribution network.

  • Ensure that all staff for which he/she is responsible work to the DSR and to demonstrate a strong safety culture

  • Take Oil Samples for diagnostic testing from HV Plant.

  • Use of appropriate IT equipment

  • Immediate supervision of Maintenance/Construction staff within their working party.

  • To be prepared to assist other sections as and when required e.g. organisational changes, system emergencies etc as determined by your skills, knowledge and experience.


  • Nature & Scope

    This position has been classified as a Specified Role and will be subject to pre-appointment drug screening in accordance with the UK Power Networks policy on Alcohol & Drugs".

    The person undertaking this role will play a vital role in the safe and timely completion of the Inspection and Maintenance up to and including 11kv in the London Region. The job holder may be required to work at any location within the UK Power Networks area.

    The successful applicant will be expected to work either alone or as part of a team of Inspectors that report to an Inspection Supervisor and have the support of experienced Field Engineers., Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations. This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.

    Employees will ensure they fully understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and particularly where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

    Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
