Full Job Description

The University of Bristol is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Technician to support our research, training and production activities for the MyWorld programme in the new Experimental Studio and Smart Cinema facilities at 'The Sheds;' part of the University of Bristol's Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.,

  • Provide technical support - inventory, testing, setup, calibration, operation and take down - in use of the virtual production stage, motion capture array, specialist camera, lens and audio equipment, studio lighting, management of truss and grip, and range of specialist audience monitoring sensors in the cinema.

  • Provide technical support to production and research colleagues in support of experimental productions, industry demonstrations and research shoots.

  • Engage with MyWorld colleagues in the delivery of training for research staff, students and industrial collaborators.

  • Contribute to the delivery of industry facing short courses

  • Support services users and technical staff, including freelance contractors and students, using the specialist equipment.

    This role is designed for someone early in their career journey or moving into the creative sector. You'll know your way around a studio, perhaps having worked as a runner before, but you'll be keen to learn and prepared to turn your hand to most things that help a studio to operate well., Career Background: Early career experience in commercial studios supporting delivery of audio visual services and managing technical production equipment for TV andgams film.

  • Professional Roles: Current or past roles such as facility or studio Technician, grip or runner.

  • Technical Expertise:


  • Early career knowledge of operating professional studio setups and relevant hardware.

  • You'll have had some experience in studio technical work, e.g. setting up a camera and lens, rigging lighting, using grip to mount audio kit in position, setting up truss.


  • Adaptability: While university experience isn't required, you should be prepared for a different environment compared to a commercial studio.

  • Innovation and Excitement: Enthusiasm for working on highly innovative projects with varying requirements and technical challenges.

  • Collaboration Skills: Comfort with dealing with uncertainty and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Led by University of Bristol and backed by a 5 year, £30m investment from UK Research and Innovation, MyWorld is catalysing sustainable growth in the region's creative economy through investments in creative technology research and development, skills training, and development of cutting edge experimental production facilities.
