Full Job Description

Working alongside the School Manager and Head of School, you will be responsible for supporting the operational management of the School, including people management, research, finance and teaching administration functions. You will be responsible for supporting a defined portfolio of business areas, including research support, academic workload, and equality, diversity and inclusion. You will directly line manage and develop colleagues within the School's administrative support function, ensuring appropriate implementation at School level of University and Faculty policies. This is an exciting new role for the School of Mathematics to support our continued growth which will allow you to further develop and draw on your excellent management, problem-solving and communication skills.What will you be doing?

  • Prepare reports, papers and data returns on behalf of the School
  • Manage as directed by the School Manager and in conjunction with HR and Finance, areas of work including workforce planning, supporting staff recruitment/contract change processes
  • Provide initial advice and signposting to colleagues constructing grant applications, contract proposals, funding shortfalls, and to support the development of School research resources and culture
  • Develop, implement and review administrative policies, procedures and systems to support education and research, ensuring compliance with legislative and policy requirements
  • Provide professional support and advice to staff within the School, liaising with Faculty and University staff or partner organisations on operational matters, acting as an interface between parties to support resolution of issues arising.
  • Draft effective communications to be issued within the School and to external partners
  • Attend relevant Univeristy meetings and working groups to represent the School or to contribute expertise relating to the administrative support function
  • Deputise for the School Manager as required and respond on the School Manager's behalf to requests for information

    Relevant experience in a management or supervisory role, preferably gained within a large complex organisation
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capacity incorporating creative thinking, to be able to identify and resolve problems and review processes
  • Ability to interpret regulations and policies to ensure these are embedded and advice given is aligned
  • Excellent organisational ability and time management skills, with the ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and timescales
  • Proven ability to interact effectively at all levels and with a wide range of contacts, using persuasion and influence to build relationships
