Full Job Description

The Widening Participation team, based within Student Journey, is a well-established team responsible for improving access to the University for prospective students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. This role will plan and deliver activities specifically designed to improve the recruitment of students from Black, Asian and other minoritised ethnic backgrounds to the University. This postholder will work closely with another Widening Participation Recruitment Officer (Race and Ethnicity), and a wider team of colleagues working across an innovative portfolio of student diversity and inclusion initiatives.

What will you be doing?

  • You will lead and advise on a range of projects aimed at improving the recruitment of students from Black, Asian and other minoritised ethnic backgrounds to the University.

  • You will work with target schools, colleges, and other organisations with an emphasis on engaging students from underrepresented groups such as those from Asian and Black backgrounds and students eligible for Free School Meals.

  • You will work collaboratively with a team of Widening Participation Recruitment Officers to monitor application and intake statistics and interpret this data to develop appropriate activities to improve the University's intake of students from underrepresented groups.

  • You will gain experience in a range of settings, including admissions processes and procedures, designing and delivering outreach and recruitment activity, data analysis, partnership development and relationship management.

  • You will work with current students, exploring opportunities for co-creation and for student voice to influence outreach and recruitment activities.

  • You will work collaboratively with the Widening Participation Manager to contribute to the University's Asian and Black student recruitment strategy.

  • You will work collaboratively with the Student Inclusion Manager and Student Inclusion Officer (Race and Ethnicity) to contribute to activities ensuring students from underrepresented groups successfully transition into the University.

You have a keen interest in changing the University for the better and making it more accessible for students from Black, Asian and other minoritised ethnic backgrounds.

  • You are capable of planning and delivering engaging, effective activities and events for large cohorts of prospective students, both virtually and in-person.

  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude to enthuse and enable those around you to support your aims.

  • You have excellent public speaking and presentation skills and can engage a wide range of audiences.

  • You are organised and an effective problem solver.

  • You thrive working in collaborative teams, working across a diverse portfolio of initiatives.

  • You are driven, pro-active and able to innovate.
