Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a newly formed Engagement Team in Library Services. Based in the Culture and Collection Group, the team includes student engagement, civic engagement and public art specialists. The team will work collaboratively across all areas of Library Services, and particularly closely with cultural collections (Special Collections and the Theatre Collection) and the Students and Learning teams.

The roleholder will be responsible for the promotion and marketing of the Library's services, and sustainable engagement with students and communities across the University, the City and beyond. They will utilise the collections (archive, book, museum, public art) to help enrich the student experience as well as provide opportunities for audience development. The team will implement the new Library Services Civic Engagement Roadmap and increase Library Services' impact through innovative, user-centred engagement. Their work will reach and build sustainable relationships and partnerships with new and existing academic and student, civic, and creative and cultural industry communities in support of the University's global civic mission.

What will you be doing?

This is a varied and challenging leadership role which will require a high degree of collaborative working, within and across teams, in order to deliver a user-centered approach to engagement.

You will provide leadership for a team of engagement managers and take an active role in the development of professional practice so the library is recognised for its innovative and inclusive engagement (on and off campus, in person and online). You will work collaboratively with a broad range of library services staff and user communities to understand user requirements and plan, deliver and co-produce engagement that creates meaningful and measurable change in services, facilities and activities and delivers academic, creative and social impact. Students are key library stakeholders and you will lead on designing and organising research into the UX in order to understand student needs relating to the Library's service.

Additionally, your work will often involve co-curation with civic communities and collections and you will balance the need for internal (student) and external (civic) facing provision of services within the resources available and respond to the changing HE environment. In order to maximise the opportunities available and/or ensure activities are sustainable this may require the preparation of business cases and funding applications.

You are a collaborative leader with a desire to develop and deliver a high quality, inclusive and innovative service to a broad range of users. You should have a postgraduate qualification in library, information management archives or museums or extensive professional experience working in libraries/archives/museums or other educational or cultural programming contexts.
