Full Job Description

This exciting new role will create and delivers the sales and marketing development for the department, focusing on Events, Staff Residential Lettings, and University visitor attractions. The role holder will lead their team to proactively engage with new and existing customers to achieve departmental objectives and Key Performance Indicators set by the Head of Department. The role holder will generate new business opportunities through identifying key markets, industries and organisations that will develop income streams, as well as increasing the University's profile through proactive sales and marketing activity and developing business from existing customers and markets. The role holder will analyse statistical management information to make relevant decisions on business development, business continuity, and market and industry trends.

What will you be doing?

You will be instrumental in the delivery of a five-year proactive sales plan, which will focus on business development and customer acquisition, reflecting the departmental business plan.

As a natural communicator, you will develop and grow internal and external strategic relationships with customers, service providers and suppliers. This will be mainly achieved through quality account management and regular meetings and appointments with customers across the UK, as well as some international travel.

By designing the sales and marketing proactive plan, the role holder will also represent the department's services by attending exhibitions, conferences and networking events and recognise all opportunities for market penetration and customer acquisition.

Through developing our branding strategy, you will identify key opportunities for marketing and PR, as well as building strong working relationships with our membership organisations and city partners.

You will be analysing market and customer data and be able to identify gaps or opportunities for achieving revenue targets, as well as generating opportunities for new business areas and customer types.

You will work closely with the Customer Operations Manager to review customer feedback, work with their teams to pick up on potential sales leads, and support with business conversion.

Through proactive activity, you will be negotiating rates and terms with new customers, to deliver quality business opportunities for the department and generate long-standing relationships with customers.

You are a professional individual, with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and motivate at all levels. Your experience will demonstrate your proven presentation, speaking and creativity skills when delivering proposals and promotional information to potential and existing customers.

Your proactive sales experience is extensive, acquired in a customer focused environment, with a key understanding of events and/or the visitor attraction sector, and could be complemented by a knowledge of residential lettings. Your experience will also include managing a team that has a focus on targets and customers, ideally in a proactive environment.

You are a goal focused individual, with a desire to achieve your planned targets and activity, and have a good understanding of marketing principles, with a strong ability to create strategic online and offline marketing plans. This will include the ability to manage a marketing budget and generate the best value output from marketing activity.

As a focused individual, the ability to interpret data and present this through reporting or verbally is essential, and will help you to set new goals and opportunities for the department.

Being able to travel nationally and internationally, you will meet new and existing customers, and as an advantage you have UK driving licence, held for at least two years (due to the University insurance policy) and have access to a vehicle for business travel purposes.
