Full Job Description

We are looking to appoint an Assistant Disability Adviser to join our growing Advice Team with a strong commitment to improving student experience by working with internal and external stakeholders to provide appropriate reasonable adjustments for students under the Equality Act 2010.

What will you be doing?

Working within a team of Advisers, reporting to a Disability Advice Team Leader, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the University's commitment to working with disabled students and University staff. The role focuses on improving disabled students experience, engagement, and support for them to successfully complete their programmes of study, working within the team to develop a student led service and delivery of support.

You will be a strong relationship builder and problem solver with experience and knowledge of reasonable adjustments in higher education and be able to deal with student queries via email, face to face/remote meetings and phone contact. You will need to be able to work autonomously and proactively with excellent team working skills to facilitate change within Disability Services and the wider University community.

You will have a positive and solution focused approach to the challenges and opportunities of working in this area remaining up to date with current legislation and policy changes. You will also be able to identify risks both to students and to the institution, knowing how to deal with these situations and identify areas of good practice that can be adopted across the service. This role will include responding to students in distress while following appropriate risk and safeguarding policies. You will be expected to review sensitive personal medical documentation.

You will be expected to attend and participate in offer holder events and Open Day events, which on occasion will fall outside of standard working hours.

We support an inclusive culture and value the diversity of our staff and students. It is important that our staff group represent the diverse population of students that we support.

If you are keen to join a service that is creative, motivated, and focused on making a difference to students, then we look forward to hearing from you.
