Full Job Description
The role holder will be responsible for leading on communication and engagement for the National Child Mortality Database (NCMD) programme. This involves dealing with a wide range of stakeholders across multiple agencies including healthcare, social care, police, education, the charity sector and bereaved families. The post-holder manages a small team responsible for developing new ways to keep participants engaged and interested in the work of NCMD, through delivery of the communication and engagement strategy. The role is varied and includes responsibility for the project website, social media, quarterly newsletter and events schedule and design of infographics and reports. The post-holder will develop and manage communication and engagement campaigns (including overseeing media activity) and evaluate the success of each activity.What will you be doing?
- Writing and maintaining the NCMD's communication and engagement strategy
- Developing, coordinating, and measuring the NCMD communications activity across multiple channels - media, events, social media, web, film, email newsletters and print materials.
- Supporting researchers in planning, undertaking, and evaluating a range of public engagement approaches, keeping up to date with best practice.
- Organising events for participants and their families, alongside engagement activity for the general public, securing funding where required.
- Designing and developing engaging, targeted campaigns, content, press releases and messages suitable for use across a range of channels and from a range of sources and stakeholders.
- Acting as first point of contact for high-profile and sensitive media issues (locally, nationally, and internationally), ensuring issues are handled in a confidential manner and providing a clear, trusted brief to media and other partners.
- Managing a team, including carrying out development reviews, monitoring staff performance, managing sickness and disciplinary issues.
You are an experienced and versatile communications professional with a drive to engage audiences, drive change and make a difference for children and young people across England. Please be aware that the role involves dealing with detailed and sensitive information on children who have died.
