An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Application Support Engineer to join the Campus, IT & Library Applications team, based within the Digital Applications area of our Operations team.

As part of the team, the successful candidate will take shared responsibility for ensuring the secure, efficient and smooth operation of the team's portfolio of digital applications. The team is responsible for the successful operational delivery of a portfolio of key business services, primarily focused on supporting and enabling the activities of the Campus, IT & Library areas. These include critical services like the estates management system, the library platform, and student accommodation system and the IT Service Management (ITSM) tool.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with SaaS applications, as well as local applications hosted on Windows and Linux servers. The remit of the team is wide and covers a diverse range of technologies so the role would suit someone with a broad technical knowledge used to working on multiple projects at the same time with a variety of stakeholders.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate appointed to this role will work in the Campus, IT & Library Applications team within the IT Services Digital Applications group. The team currently has 4 engineer roles and an ITSM Platform Specialist role.

As part of the team, you will take shared responsibility for the overall operation of their portfolio of applications. This requires monitoring, analysis, technical intervention and reporting, all of which you will be involved in.

The team owns and manages the lifecycle of their applications and services, from commissioning, implementation, through upgrades, maintenance, continuous improvement activities, to eventual retirement and decommissioning. You will work closely with university stakeholders, suppliers and colleagues and services from other IT Services teams in all aspects of this work.

You will maintain a culture of continuous improvement to enhance service delivery within the team and wider IT Services.

Showing initiative and agility in developing and maintaining services, you will be confident working independently as well as part of a team. You will be a champion of the IT Services Charter and Change Management and support the delivery of the Digital Strategy.

· Experience of many of the technical aspects of enterprise application lifecycle management, from implementation to decommissioning.
· Experience with technical aspects of operational application management within an enterprise environment.
· Experience of managing applications on various platforms including Linux, Windows and SaaS
· Knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as Java, PowerShell, Python, Perl or Bash
· Knowledge of modern development and operations practices (e.g. source control and automation tools).
· Good understanding and experience of IT service management principles and best practices.
· Certification in ITIL, such as ITIL Foundation
· Highly motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
· Can engage with external suppliers and vendors.
· Can communicate with others of varying technical levels.
