Full Job Description

Interviews week commencing: As and when applications are received, these may be held via video calling. Interviews will be completed on a rolling basis so please ensure you complete your application as soon as possible.
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks)

Adam is a bright, curious, and very cheerful young boy, who was born in 2012 and lives at home with his mother. He has Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy with both physical and communication difficulties which have a significant impact on his daily life and means that he is looking for someone to help support him with all aspects of daily living including personal care.

Adam can walk with the support of a walker, and has a wheelchair to help his mobility. He can sit independently on the floor and can pull himself up on the coffee table to cruise around on his own. With a lot of concentration, he is able to overcome his uncoordinated upper limbs and can use a finger to pick up a small object. Both at home and at school, he uses his right foot/toes with precision to communicate and play games on his touch screen tablet, as well as using his foot to paint and write.
His understanding of spoken language is good, and he communicates mainly via his touch screen tablet and communication book, both of which he uses effectively. He is also able to vocalise and people who know him well are able to interpret his vocalisations. He settles well at night.
Your role as support worker would be to provide a playful and nurturing environment to engage Adam during playtime. Prepare dinner, bathing and generally supporting his evening routine. Adam is good at guiding the support worker and will lead the activities, he enjoys role play with baby dolls, using his computer and printer, he really is a playful young man. Adam can now stand spontaneously and take a few steps for which he would require close monitoring.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to develop their existing skills and support this very special little boy. The role will develop as Adam's needs change, and he becomes more familiar and comfortable with people and will be truly rewarding for someone who can communicate effectively and who has an ability to work with enthusiasm, fun and be proactive in looking for activities to engage Adam.
