Full Job Description

Oakwood is an acquired brain injury unit based in Offerton, Stockport. You will be supporting adults living with the effects of an acquired brain injury or associated neurological conditions. You will be working alongside our physiotherapy team, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists and Neuropsychologist, ensuring goals and interventions set by our therapy team are met. Our Service Users have acquired brain injuries and/or physical disabilities that make independence harder, what they all share is a desire to make their own choices, as well as friends and memories that last a lifetime. After all, isn't that what most of us want? As a Support Worker for a leading charity, you'll help make that happen. As some Service Users are non-verbal and immobile, you might support Team Leaders with medical interventions. There'll be some personal care and medical appointments too. But where possible, the rest of the day is down to them. Working together with our Service Users you will help to devise a weekly planner which comprises of daily activities, therapy activities, outings, meal planning etc. Care Assistant, Support Worker or similar experience is desirable but not essential. We offer an excellent training and induction programme for everyone! As a Support Worker with Leonard Cheshire you will become part of a fantastic team. Every day is different, but here are just some of the duties you will do:

  • Assistance with daily life tasks including personal care, medication and mealtimes.
  • Escort and assist in and around the service, at external events and appointments.
  • Supporting our Person Centred approach, encouraging maximum independence for our customers and helping to achieve individual aspirations.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records.

    Have good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Work flexibly and creatively with customers and their families.
  • Ideally have personal care experience (not essential).
  • Be able to work under pressure and as a team.
  • Flexibility to work within rostered hours / prepared to participate in an on-call rota where required., Disability Confident

    A night enhancement of £1.50 per hour will apply from 8pm to 7am Monday - Sunday (this does not apply to sleep-ins). A weekend day enhancement of £2.00 per hour will be paid from 7am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday.,
