Although this job description is correct at present, it may change from time to time after negotiation with the post holder., To look after a 4-year-old boy, taking him out to the fun places he like to go and to do fun activities with him at home. About me I am a 4-year-old boy who lives near Stowmarket, I love swimming and being outside, I love silly noises and getting up to mischief! I am registered blind, have epilepsy and dystonia but that doesn't stop me loving life. Attitude and approach are key, I want someone who is calm and caring, who likes to have fun and enjoys working with children with complex needs. The person supporting me will have the use of my wheelchair accessible vehicle to take me out in. Training in epilepsy emergency medications and tube feeding can be arranged. We have no pets and are a non-smoking household. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Personal care, I am fully dependent on others for all aspects of care
- Medications need to be administered in a timely fashion o routine and emergency meds
- Meals to be given via gastrostomy
- Recognise the early signs of my dystonia worsening and help me to manage the pain and discomfort
- Driving my wheelchair accessible vehicle when we go out o You will need to be happy driving a larger vehicle
- Full UK Driving Licence Manual and over 21-years-old (for insurance purposes)
- Calm and able to think clearly under pressure

- Good communicator
- Good sense of humour, Experience with epilepsy and rescue medication
- Experience with managing dystonia
- Experience in gastrostomy feeds
- Have knowledge of Canaan Barrie signing
- Experience of working in a similar role
- Experience of working with children
- Moving and Handling training
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality o (no photographs / information about the child should be shared)
- Hours, days and times of work: Some flexibility around the days and times of work, to be agreed with the successful applicant. Please see details below: o During termtime, weekends: either 8 hours alternate Saturdays/Sundays (10:00 to 18:00) or 4 hours every week (10:00 to 14:00). o During the school holidays, weekday: 6 hours per week on one day from Monday to Friday (10:00 to 16:00)
- Pay rate: £12.70 per hour
- Annual leave: The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work normally done during 5.6 weeks (statutory entitlement).
