Full Job Description

You will be joining a small care team within a family home where you will be taking direction from Elijah's Mother/ The Case Manager/ The Team Leader to ensure that Elijah receives all the care he needs. He requires full assistance with his daily routines and all of his personal care needs. The role will include a mixture of PEG feeding and suctioning, monitoring and recording health status and observations, medication administration, supporting his mobility via hoisting and assisting with all of his therapies., Our Case Managers work closely with our Clients, and we carry out all the recruitment processes on behalf of our Clients; and will support you, from your initial telephone interview right through to arranging employer interviews, trial shifts and placement. If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client. However, ILS will manage your day to day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role. Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.

This job will suit someone who has experience of working in a family home, working with children with complex care needs including epilepsy, PEG feeding, suctioning, manual handling, monitoring and recording observations. Elijah would love someone calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role, who is able to promote his learning, care and independence in the home and community.   • Pay and Benefits, Confident working with people with medical conditions, especially epilepsy.
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Confident about working in our client's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of his parents. Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect our client and their family's need for privacy.
  • Keen to see our client develop and show a willingness to carry through physiotherapy, speech and language and occupational therapy programmes on a daily basis. Training will be given as required.
  • Happy to learn new things - hoisting, feeding, personal care routine, use of equipment etc. Training will be given.
  • Aptitude and desire to work with children with complex needs.
  • Flexible and able to use own initiative with common sense beyond the obvious.
  • Patient and tolerant with a cheerful, caring and positive attitude.

    Days & Hours: Fixed Term Contracts (12 months) and Bank hours available for various shifts including; 3pm to 9am Monday to Friday after school, weekends and longer hours during school holidays, waking night shifts require carers to be awake all night. Pay: £12.60-£18.90 an hour dependent on shift (sleeping nights paid at £10p/h) Driver required? Desirable Driving Clients Car? Desirable to drive our clients Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV), automatic Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Desirable as beneficial when required to attend training. Essential: Experience of supporting children with complex needs. Experience of working in a family home. Confident with PEG feeding, suctioning, epilepsy and administering medication. Accommodation (while on duty): 5-bedroom family home with adaptations, carers' suite with a bed, kitchenette and washing machine located on the top floor of the property. Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks) Elijah, born in 2013, lives at home with his mother and sees his father and grandmother at weekends. He enjoys watching TV, listening to music and spending time with family. Elijah has Cerebral Palsy affecting all 4 limbs and communication difficulties. He requires close monitoring of his epilepsy. He has a gastrostomy and requires suctioning at times to manage his secretions. Due to his complexity he requires observation monitoring. He is dependent on carers for all of his care needs, transfers and mobility and uses a wheelchair. He requires hoisting for all transfers which requires assistance of 2 carers.,
