As a Surface Finish Technician, you will prepare and refinish a wide range of equipment including ground equipment, woodwork, aircraft components, aircrew helmets and airborne gas cylinders.
You will restore and finish specialist coatings to equipment to a high standard, according to approved requirements and work instructions, using specific tools and equipment, such as pneumatic, airless and electrostatic systems.
This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months., + Compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements including Health and Safety legislation.
+ Carrying out checks on breathing air and plant to ensure safe working.
+ Understanding and complying with statutory, quality and organisational requirements for aviation including safety, documentation and occupational health and safety whilst in an aviation environment.
+ Ensuring materials are stored safely, order and rotate stock, maintaining batch controls and that time expired stock and waste products are disposed of correctly.
+ Measuring and recording the usage of Volatile Organic Compounds, air movement and temperatures in Spray Bays, surface thickness of coatings and the viscosity of mixed paint where required.
+ Ensuring that the correct usage of hand operated tools with regards to Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) is recorded and limits are never exceeded.
+ Prioritising and coordinating the flow of work and tasks through the Paint Section in conjunction with Team Leaders and team members.

+ Skilled in the use of paint spraying equipment, shot-blasting booths and plastic media cabinets.
+ Knowledge of preparation including degreasing, pre-treatments, masking, filling and sanding.
+ Knowledge of fiberglass and body filler repairs.
+ Ability to read, interpret and understand engineering data, drawings, specifications, manuals, documentation and computer-generated information.
Desirable Criteria:
+ IT literate including Microsoft Office.
