Full Job Description
The Hong Kong BN(O) Migrants Panel Survey is a three year research project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. Professor Tak Wing Chan (UCL) is the project's Principal Investigator; Professor Jonathan Portes (KCL) and Ms Madeleine Sumption (Oxford) are the Co-Investigators. The main goal of the project is to obtain systematic and robust data from a nationally representative sample of the BN(O) migrants, so as to inform the development of policies and/or services that would support the integration of the BN(O)s in the UK. In this project we will organise a 3-year annual panel survey. The initial sample will be about 2,000 BN(O) migrants from about 1,000 households. Wave 1 fieldwork has already been completed. The post holder will be responsible for managing all aspects of the study that UCL has primary responsibility for and for working closely with the survey contractor and other research partners to ensure smooth coordination of the project as a whole. We welcome candidates with excellent organisational, communication, and liaison skills as you will be required to work closely with multiple research teams, colleagues in the Home Office, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and the wider community of stakeholders linked to the study. We also welcome candidates with experience of survey management with large-scale surveys, and we are particularly interested in those with experience of working on longitudinal studies. Experience in research ethics processes and understanding of data protection and GDPR processes and legisliation are highly desirable. This is a 0.5 FTE post to co-ordinate the Hong Kong BN(O) Migrants Panel Survey available until 31 August 2026 in the first instance.
You will have an MSc or equivalent experience in a relevant social science discipline along with a good understanding of survey/longitudinal study data and ability to conduct and write up straightforward analyses of the data. You will also have an interest in, and good understanding of, current issues in child development research. Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.
