Full Job Description

Full-time qualified and experienced BREEAM assessor and accredited professional (AP) to support projects and programmes predominantly in Mace's public sector. This role is initially based at 155 Moorgate, London, however, hybrid working will be considered for this role. The successful candidate will join the existing responsible business team in the UK and deliver client-facing consultancy services including the advisory, management and co-ordination of various BREEAM assessments across our increasing portfolio. The role will also support work winning, and Mace's wider corporate sustainability commitments including to reduce client carbon emissions by 10 million tonnes and increase biodiversity by 500ha. You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading BREEAM assessments across the public sector, including both new construction and refurbishment projects.
  • Ensuring that wider sustainable design and social value principles are embedded into projects from inception through to completion.
  • Engaging and effectively communicating with other specialist disciplines (e.g. architects, engineers, project managers, construction managers).
  • Being a technical expert in BREEAM and having a strong ability to upskill junior team members to help deliver certification and service excellence on projects.
  • Providing support to the public sector team in terms of team resourcing, preparing fee proposals/bid content and external profile-raising of Mace and Mace's services.
  • Sharing BREEAM best practice, tools, templates and lessons learnt across other teams within Mace.
  • Promoting innovation, particularly around the design of sustainable buildings.
  • Supporting the drive for Mace to be a leader in climate change and sustainability., Relevant tertiary qualification (post graduate degree, Etc.) (or equivalent). NZC, scope 1-3 emissions.
  • TCFD/TNFD.
  • Setting a scope, objectives, target's/industry benchmarks LETI, RICS.
  • Building performance standards - Part L & Future,
  • Standards - EN15978, ISO 14026 Standards PAS 2080 (50, 60, 35),
  • Frameworks ie UKGBC, SBT, TPI.
  • TM 54 and how to use them.
  • Embodied carbon and how to drive reductions - LCA - one click.
  • Electrification - heating and cooling demand/supply.
  • Governance & risk (PMO)
  • Interaction at different levels (executive vs project management)/(design team vs supply chain).
  • Building sustainability into contracts & procurement.
  • Building sustainability into the design process.
  • Biodiversity, nature based solutions, green infrastructure.
  • Social value and quantification methodologies ie TOMS, V2S, SV portal.
  • Sustainability certification (BREEAM, LEED, WELL, etc).

  • Relevant degree and membership of an environmental or sustainability body.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of leading BREEAM assessments and a strong technical understanding of sustainable building design.
  • Proven track record of driving design teams to maximise sustainability, delivering BREEAM certification and liaising with BRE.
  • Knowledge of the construction process and the associated implications of sustainable design.
  • Ability to translate technical topics into layperson language and articulate the value of sustainability.
  • Confidence and ability to represent Mace at relevant forums, client presentations and working groups.
  • Ability to support work winning/bidding opportunities, including case studies and CV writing.
  • Effective at establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with clients and stakeholders including design team members, contractors, sub-contractors and regulators.
  • You'll need to have:
  • The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified BREEAM assessor and accredited professional (AP) in BREEAM UK new construction schemes and BREEAM UK refurbishment & fit-out.
  • Practical experience in the public sector would also be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Calm and professional manner.
  • Effective problem solver and negotiator.
  • Solid administration and IT skills - advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to liaise with people at all levels and persuade and influence stakeholders.
  • Be self-motivated and able to self-manage.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a flexible approach to different work environments.
  • Project management skills.
  • Suitably qualified in environmental sustainability or relevant degree (post-graduate).
