Full Job Description

This role is to provide a comprehensive direct tax and reporting service to LII. Reporting to the Head of Tax Compliance & Reporting and assisted by a team including at least two direct reports, the successful candidate will oversee the preparation of all the LII legal entity tax computations, financial reporting and co-ordination of European branch tax returns with third party advisers. The successful candidate will have good knowledge of Lloyd's syndicates, UK corporation tax, accounting standards and be an effective communicator (both written and verbal). When required they will assist the Head of Tax Compliance & Reporting, Tax Risk & Governance Senior Manager and Transfer Pricing Senior Manager to propose tax accounting positions. The successful candidate will focus on European tax compliance and reporting, however LII is expanding into Asia Pac, South and Central America, the role will naturally expand to manage the tax compliance of those areas. About the Department & Team: The London Tax Department is comprised of a dynamic team of tax professionals managing Liberty's internal tax matters and compliance processes as well as supporting other internal functions and businesses across Liberty's global insurance and reinsurance network. Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Head of Tax and peers with varied tax projects.
  • Motivating and challenging the tax compliance & reporting team and at least two direct reports.
  • Develop, strengthen and document the LII Tax Team's European compliance knowledge.
  • Develop existing and create new tax and account processes.
  • Manage direct tax compliance including direct UK & European tax provisions; UK & European corporate income tax returns and supplement returns; tax cash payments and cash forecasting; UK PAYE settlement agreement.
  • Manage LII internal & external tax reporting requirements including FRS102, various European & US GAAP reporting of tax compliance positions; planning and forecasting; solvency II; management reporting.
  • Maintain and develop monthly and quarterly controls and reconciliations.
  • Assist Tax Governance & Policy team to develop and strengthen LII accounting governance and SAO requirements.
  • Business Partnering to develop and strengthen Tax Team's relationship with stakeholders.
  • Develop accounting team's knowledge of tax positions.
  • Assist, maintain and adhere to the Liberty's Tax Strategy.
  • Keep up to date with tax legislative developments across all taxes and identify tax opportunities.
  • Ensuring the adherence of individual and project deadlines.

    Post qualified ACA or CTA experience within Financial Services either in industry or a large accountancy firm.
  • Proven track record of building and managing a successful team.
  • Excellent team player with an ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Insurance market experience.
  • Deep UK tax compliance knowledge.
  • Extensive UK, FRS102 and US GAAP knowledge.
  • Ability to learn and use a variety of accounting systems.
  • A second language helpful, but not essential.
  • Good Microsoft and power point skills.
  • A self-starter, with proven ability to assist implement new procedures and take ownership in delivering solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams.
  • Proven track record of delivering pragmatic solutions to internal stakeholders.
  • Must be able to effectively build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
