Art and Photography are part of the Hildegard of Bingen Learning Division which also includes Music, Drama, Dance, French and Spanish.

With a strong practical and theoretical emphasis, we encourage students from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 5 to recognise the importance of the visual arts and how it shapes the world in which we live.

At Key Stage 3, all students are taught Art in mixed ability groups at the Ignis site for one lesson a week in one of our 3 large, dedicated Art rooms. They study a wide range of diverse artists and develop their creative skills within a calm and purposeful working atmosphere which makes our subject area an ideal place to work. All year 7 students' complete part of their Bronze Arts Award qualification in Art alongside Performing Arts.

At Key Stages 4 and 5 students are taught in one of two specialist Art rooms. Students are able to explore a range of media and have access to two kilns, a professional standard Photography Studio and computer suite which provides access to the full Adobe CC apps. Students are taught to develop knowledge, understanding and skills through integrated practical, critical and contextual study that encourages direct engagement with original works and practice. Fine Art and Photography are very popular subjects at both GCSE and A Level, results are always amongst the top performing subjects in the College. Many students choose to progress to creative degrees from the course.

Students have, in recent years attended various workshops with high quality artists and organisations including the Royal Academy of Arts, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Cartwright Hall as well as a biannual visit to explore the London Art galleries.
