Full Job Description

Required from April 2025, with an earlier start possible

Bedford Modern School is an HMC Independent Co-educational Day School located on the outskirts of Bedford. Our facilities are excellent and include a separate Junior School, dedicated Sixth Form building, purpose-built Science Centre opened in 2017 and extensive sports facilities.

The School offers a premium education, with a wide and varied curriculum, that is responsive to the needs of students and parents, where the intellectual needs of each student is given priority.

We are looking to appoint a committed and suitably qualified graduate to teach Biology at GCSE and A level, alongside Combined Science to Year 7 and 8 as necessary. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner, comfortable using the latest technology, have a passion for your subject and an appreciation of the value that comes from being actively involved in departmental trips, events and enrichment activities.

You will have a genuine interest in delivering positive outcomes for young people and be willing to contribute to the extensive co-curricular life of both the Science Faculty and the wider school.

We warmly welcome applications from experienced teachers and ECTs, offering a supportive, caring programme to those starting their teaching career.

In return, we can offer an excellent working environment, 35 term-time weeks, CPD opportunities through our membership of the Harpur Trust, the option to be part of a private healthcare scheme and generous pension scheme and fee remission (subject to availability and entrance requirements).

Closing date: 8am on 26 November 2024

Interviews: 3 December 2024

Further details and how to apply can be found on our website: https://www.bedmod.co.uk/job-opportunities/

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview.
