Full Job Description

A Leading HMC Selective Co-Educational Day School.

Conveniently located in the heart of Kingston upon Thames, with its excellent transport links to central London by rail and road and a newly renovated, 22-acre sports grounds and boat house on the River Thames, opposite Hampton Court Palace, is the home of KGS Sport.

We seek to appoint a well-qualified Economics/Business Studies graduate, holding a PGCE or equivalent, to teach Economics and Business Studies. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, ambitious, organised yet flexible - in short, we seek flair and drive. We would welcome applications from experienced teachers but will certainly consider candidates who have qualified more recently. Whatever the level of experience, the successful applicant should offer Economics and Business Studies to A Level.

The Department of Economics and Business Studies is large and robust with high expectations and a willingness to innovate to ensure students benefit from the best possible learning experience. Public examination results have been impressive and are well above the UK national averages.

Economics and Business are only offered to Sixth Form students. Economics is an established subject at KGS offering A Level Economics and A Level Business through the Pearson/Edexcel syllabus and Young Enterprise.

Many students go on to related courses at university level at a range of institutions world-wide. A willingness to provide departmental support to undergraduate applications would be welcome, particularly Oxbridge applications for Economics, PPE, Business Management or Land Economy.

The role is offered on a part-time or full-time basis (specific hours/days to be agreed at interview). Please include your working preference in your covering letter. We offer a very competitive salary dependent on experience plus generous benefits. This role is initially for maternity cover, but further opportunities can be discussed at interview.

The closing date for the position is Monday 15th July 2024 at 9am. Interviews are likely to take place towards the end of August.

For further information and to apply, please visit the vacancies section on the School's website via the Apply button.

Prior to interview, an online search will be conducted to identify any past or current incidents or issues that might affect your suitability to work with children and undertake this role. This is in line with guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education. Please note this online search will be carried out only on publicly available information and be limited to issues relating to your suitability to work with children and/or in a school environment. Issues that arise will not automatically be a bar to your employment at this school.

Kingston Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
