Full Job Description

An excellent opportunity for a Teacher of English to join our School as soon as possible to teach English at KS3 and KS4. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) temporary post to cover maternity leave.

Our School

Kew House School was established in the conviction that there exists an opportunity for a different kind of independent secondary school in London - academically demanding but with a forward-thinking approach to selection criteria, the flexibility of the curriculum, the shape of the school day, and recognition of creativity and talent. A character-selective school, we pride ourselves on the support and care we extend to our 600 pupils whilst striving to add value to their success in all fields of academia, sport, and creativity. Having successfully grown over its ten years since foundation and recently awarded the ISI "Excellent" grading.

Facilities

The buildings are equipped with modern facilities with interactive smartboards and access to iPads. We have a wide range of resources available to make the learning more challenging and interesting. The department has experienced and supportive staff, and we offer a creative and collaborative working environment.

Curriculum

English is at the centre of the school curriculum. The faculty is incredibly experienced, enthusiastic, and passionate about the subject and its huge significance. A wide range of texts are delivered, creating a dynamic and exhilarating curriculum for our pupils; literature is placed at the heart of teaching and learning in order to engage and inspire our pupils as young readers. The English department is thriving, with excellent results, a high uptake at A Level, and several students each year going on to study English Literature and related disciplines at university. Key Stage 3 and 4 groups study 4.5 hours of English per week, and Key Stage 5 study 6 hours per week, to allow a greater scope for interpretive and evaluative extension activities.

Extra-Curricular

We run several trips throughout the year, as well as highly subscribed clubs such as Creative Writing Club, KS5 Book Club, and booster revision sessions.
