Full Job Description

The School seeks to appoint a full-time teacher of Mathematics from April 2025. This post comes with a generous package: Rent-free accommodation provided on the Hill; Access to a generous education fund for any children you may have; Health cover provided free of charge for you and at a reduced rate for any members of your immediate family that you may wish to add.

The Mathematics Department is one of the most successful departments in the School, with very good results achieved at all levels. It consists of 16 Masters.

There are approximately 170 boys in a year group and usually some 100 boys study Mathematics in each year of the Sixth Form. The department currently prepares boys for examinations set by Pearson. In 2024, 34% of A-level Mathematics grades were at A

  • , with 79% at A-A. Three divisions (sets) of boys studied Further Mathematics, with 81% achieving A-A. In the same year, 53% of IGCSE results were at grade 9, with 79% at grades 9-8. Almost all in the top two divisions at IGCSE also take the Additional Mathematics qualification, with many achieving the highest possible grade.


  • The Mathematics Department has a long tradition of excellence in national Mathematics competitions. Each year large numbers of boys participate in the UKMT Mathematics Challenges, with many going on to take the Olympiad papers. The department also runs an inter-house Mathematics competition as well as a competition for individual boys. Harrovians enter both the Junior and Senior Mathematics Team Challenges; they have won three national titles since 2011. There is also an active Mathematics Society, which hosts weekly talks on different Mathematical themes.

    Support and training to achieve Qualified Teacher Status can be offered if required. We occasionally appoint Masters with outstanding qualities and a good degree who do not have a formal teaching qualification.
