Full Job Description

Serving the bustling city of Sheffield, Outwood Academy City was constructed in 2011 with state-of-the-art facilities and joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust three years later. The school has undergone a huge transformation for its 1200 students, with an innovative curriculum and a personalised approach to learning enabling them to realise their vocational, practical, creative and academic abilities. This was recognised by Ofsted in February 2019, when the academy was judged 'Good with Outstanding Leadership'. Inspectors noted that, "Leaders and teachers demonstrate high expectations for all pupils. They are determined that pupils achieve well in their subjects". The maths department is a thriving, friendly department of 7 full-time staff, 3 part-time staff and 4 one-to-one tutors, housed across 10 dedicated maths classrooms, each equipped with smart boards and visualisers. The vision is for the Maths department to be outstanding; where students are challenged, engaged and successful and teaching is relevant, exciting, innovative and transformational. A beacon of good practice and a leader in raising standards, attainment and innovation. Our key aims are:

  • To develop proficiency in all areas of numeracy including problem solving, verbal reasoning, reading and communicating mathematically; functional and creative skills
  • To provide a varied and stimulating curriculum which responds to the needs of students and develops their knowledge of the world in which we live
  • To encourage creativity and experimentation with mathematical language and confidence in communication of ideas
  • To develop a culture whereby students are able and willing to tackle mathematical problems in unfamiliar contexts
